CONFIGURATION

Avatars / Logos

An avatar is a small image that a registered Member uses to customize their member profile, and to attach to reviews as a kind of visual signature so that other members and visitors to your site can instantly recognize them. In this sense, an avatar is very similar to a business logo. In fact, Review Foundry treats the Member.avatar_image and Supplier.logo_image columns in essentially identical ways. The only real difference is that a Supplier in Review Foundry generally represents the business end of a company, or possibly a single individual, while a Member always represents a single individual. In both cases, when you visit the Profile page of a Member or a Supplier, you will see, respectively, their avatar or their logo displayed alongside the name by which they are known. So what is true for avatars in Review Foundry generally applies to logos too.

Because avatars and logos are meant to be small, you'll want to be able to limit the maximum permissible size of each when a Member or Supplier uploads an image. This is done by separately specifying, for both avatars and logos, a maximum file size (in kB) and a maximum image dimension (in pixels) for both the width and height. These variables can be updated from the Avatars / Logos frame of the Configure control panel. Example values are shown below:

avatar_max_file_size_kb

64

avatar_cutoff_size_width

80

avatar_cutoff_size_height

80

logo_max_file_size_kb

64

logo_cutoff_size_width

120

logo_cutoff_size_height

60

Note: If the dimensions of an avatar or logo fall within the permitted range, but the file size nonetheless exceeds the stated maximum, it will not be uploaded and the member will be asked to try with another image.
