CONFIGURATION

Reviews / Rank

The collection of reviews is one of the more distinguishing features of Review Foundry. Here you will find an explanation of the various parameters that control the collection and presentation of review. Review Foundry also allows reviewers to be ranked according to the total number of Was Helpful votes received for all reviews written by that Member.

General Settings

  • review_ratings_stacked
    Example: Yes
Unless you restrict the number of rating attributes for every Container and every Container Type to 3 or less, so that ratings may be placed neatly across the page in a horizontal format, select "Yes" here to have the attributes and the corresponding rating values stacked vertically.
  • review_avatars_enabled
    Example: Yes
Toggle this parameter to "Yes" if a reviewer's Member avatar should be displayed with the review.
  • review_emoticons_enabled
    Example: Yes
Toggle this parameter to "Yes" if a reviewer should be allowed to add smilie icons, like , to their reviews.
  • review_submission_chars_per_line
    Example: 70
This parameter controls the width of the textarea box used to collect the text for a review.
  • review_submission_max_lines
    Example: 50
This parameter controls the maximum number of rows of text that may be submitted for the review. The actual length of the review is checked against the product of this parameter and the one above--the review_submission_chars_per_line.
  • review_submission_max_word_length
    Example: 50
This parameter controls the maximum length of words appearing in a review. Words longer than this length are broken with whitespace so that reviews with very long words do not force the displayed page to extend beyond the natural browser width.
  • review_bad_word_filtering_enabled
    Example: Yes
Text submitted for a review can be checked against a bad word dictionary defined elsewhere (see the Index contro panel). When enabled, the bad word filter forces reviewers to clean up their language.
  • review_bad_word_response
    Example: BLOCK
When one or more words in a review trigger a response from the bad word filter, that response can be of one of two forms:

    1. WARN reviewer that they may be taking a chance that their review is rejected if they submit with the words which initiated the warning message

    2. BLOCK the submission process until the reviewer removes the offending words
  • reviewer_can_submit_anonymously
    Example: Yes
Toggle this to "Yes" if reviewers should be allowed to submit their review anonymously. Note: they will still be required to authenticate themselves (i.e. login) before they can submit the review, but their identity will be hidden when the review is displayed.
  • review_submission_request_location
    Example: Yes
Toggle this parameter to "No" if you do not wish to have a text box placed on the review form to collect (as an optional field) the reviewer's location.
  • review_unique_ip_item
    Example: No
Toggle this parameter to "Yes" if you do not wish to allow multiple Item review submissions from the same IP address for ANY Item. If you wish instead to limit IP submissions on a per-Item basis, you can toggle the 'unique_review_ip' column of a particular Item.
  • review_unique_ip_member
    Example: No
Toggle this parameter to "Yes" if you do not wish to allow multiple Member review submissions from the same IP address for ANY Member. If you wish instead to limit IP submissions on a per-Member basis, you can toggle the 'unique_review_ip' column of a particular Member.
  • review_unique_ip_supplier
    Example: No
Toggle this parameter to "Yes" if you do not wish to allow multiple Supplier review submissions from the same IP address for ANY Supplier. If you wish instead to limit IP submissions on a per-Supplier basis, you can toggle the 'unique_review_ip' column of a particular Supplier.
  • review_table_width
    Example: 100%
To contract the width of the table which displays review, enter a value less than 100%.

Top Reviewer Settings

  • reviewer_ranking_enabled
    Example: Yes
If you wish to enable reviewer rankings you will need to collect the Was Helpful votes upon which the rankings are determined.
  • reviewer_ranking_icon_cutoff
    Example: 10
When the Top Reviewers page is shown, a "Top N Reviewer" icon is shown next to the top N reviewers, where N can be 10 or 100.
  • reviewer_ranking_sequence_smooth
    Example: DEFAULT
When ranking reviewers, members with the same rank will be shown as such. How the sequence picks up again after that can be done in one of two ways:
    1. SMOOTH In this case three reviewers with rank 72 might apear in a the ranking sequence as: ...71 72 72 72 73 74... wherein the ranking sequence picks up again at 73.

    2. DEFAULT In this case the ranking scheme is slightly different, and skips the ranking values that were displaced by the repeated ranking values. This produce something like ...71 72 72 72 75 76... This scheme has the advantage that the ranking value is no more than one greater than the number of people who have a higher rank.
  • reviewer_auto_approval_enabled
    Example: Yes
If you wish to allow the "Top M Reviewers" to bypass the review moderation process (and have their) reviews automatically approved, then select 'Yes'. See the next variable to determine a value for M. Note: you can also specify automatic review approval at the Member level by editing the User table record for the member (see the User.review_auto_approval column).
  • reviewer_auto_approval_cutoff
    Example: 50
If are allowing the "Top M Reviewers" to bypass review moderation, this variable specifies the value of M. If M = 10, then the Top 10 Reviewers will have their reviews automatically approved.
