CONFIGURATION

Shared Reviews

If the idea of creating unique sets of rating attributes for, say, every category seems like overkill to you (and it's certainly not required as you can make use of the rating template inheritance feature) there is another way of organizing your attributes. You can settle on a common set to be used by ALL categories. No inheritance is used in this case, as all categories simply access the same rating attributes by going to a common source. In this case, because the attributes are common to every review lodged for any item, it is easy to combine reviews from different categories. Performing statistical averages on each rating attribute makes sense. So if you choose this method of assigning rating attributes the reviews WILL be shared across every category common to the item.

There is an obvious benefit to assigning rating attributes this way: if every item appears on the average in 3 categories, a review for a given item will appears in 3 places and your review pages will fill up quicker. The downside is that every item in every category is treated exactly the same way when being rated. You will have to decide whether sharing rating attributes and reviews is the way to go for you.

Reviews can be shared in this way for each of the Item, Member, and Supplier branches. Each branch can have its own set of shared rating attributes. Simply use the transfer select menus to specify these sets for each of the 3 branches. If you wish NOT to use shared reviews, leave the menus blank and assign rating attributes in the usual way on the edit form for a container (where a rating attribute template appears at the bottom of the page).

Note that when you select rating attributes from the menu on the left side of the page, you MUST select attributes with the same rating scale, and this scale is shown (in brackets) next to each rating attribute to make the selection process transparent.
