CREATING RATING TEMPLATES

Creating Rating Templates

As discussed in ADDING RATING ATTRIBUTES, a "rating template" is merely a collection of rating attributes, or types, that are associated with (in this case) a category. For Clare to create the intended rating template for her Kids & Family > Disney category, she makes her way to the page which allows her to modify this category by pulling up the Category Browser again and navigating to the category by clicking on the appropriate right-pointing arrows to create a path to the Kids & Family > Disney category.

  Kids & Family (0)
  Disney (0)

Once there, she clicks on the Modify link in the navigation bar on the right of the page. She will then see the same (now filled out) fields that she encountered when she created the category. But this time she is interested in creating a rating template, so the only portion of the form that she focuses on now is the part displayed below, where it is assumed that by this stage she has added all the rating attributes discussed earlier (the form is functional, so go ahead and click on a rating type in the Rating Type Pool then transfer it to the Rating Questions box to see how rating attribute assignment is done):

RatingType Pool

In addition to the 5 rating attributes that Clare specifically added to her RatingType table for use with the current category, the Rating Type Pool from which she can select these attributes will contain all other rating attributes as well. It is therefore in her interest to create rating attributes with well-defined meanings so that it is clear to her when and when not to add a particular attribute to a given category.

Once Clare has transferred the 5 rating types of interest from the Rating Type Pool to the Rating Questions box she goes ahead and saves the category information so as to include the new rating template definition. Her selection of attributes will then be spelled out in detail on the page, as well as show up in the Rating Questions box, when the saved page is represented. For more information on this entire process, see the Red Queen manual page on the subject of RATING TYPES and Editable Non-Category Fields.

Now that the Kids & Family > Disney category has been set up completely, the next step will be for Clare to add Items to the category.
